Louvers, Louvers Everywhere!

The new style Mustang definitely has a "retro" feel to it.  Just look at that front end! The cars looks are what initially attracted me to the car.  So in keeping with the retro style I added the rear quarter window louvers.  The car also seemed to take on a yellow and black color scheme with the addition of the stripes and chin spoiler in addition to the stock mirror and rocker panels.   So for me the next logical addition was a set of rear window louvers. And once again I knew just the guy who could hook me up!  Scott Hoag from MRT! (www.mrt-direct.com)

MRT carries a nice one piece (or 2), powdered coated metal louvers (http://www.mrt-direct.com/2005/Pages/louvers.php)  Scott pulled a set of the louvers out and set it on my car so I could see what it looked like. It looked GREAT! No doubt that the louvers would be a great addition to my car.  So I told Scott he had made another sale!  Now it was just a matter of installing them!

Scott attaches the latches to the bottom
of the louvers.

Next he installs a rubber strip along the edge.

The louvers attach to the windshield, so
there is no modification to the car. Scott uses the paper template (included with kit) to determine where the mounting brackets/hinges  will be placed.

Using the template, Scott attaches the
mounting brackets to the windshield.

There are a total four brackets that mount on the top of the windshield.

The louver is then installed. The hinges on the louvers are attached to the two center brackets. The hinges are slotted so the louver can be adjust for the perfect fit! The mounting brackets have two studs each.

The last step is to install the bottom brackets. These brackets have a post on them. When the louver is lowered they snap on to the post. You then use the latch (installed in step 1) to lock on to the post.  To position these bottom brackets lower the louver to determine where the bottom bracket needs to be.

The Before

The After

This is just a very quick and general overview of the install.  The install did appear to be very straight forward. But like everything else... Please consult the installation instructions for complete details!
