Watching you like a hawk!

Like a MSD Dashhawk to be precise! As we continue to push The Mistress more and more, it's becoming more important to keep an eye on different operating  parameters, like coolant temperature, inlet temperature, etc.  As it turns out a lot of the things are available from the car's computer and can be monitored via the ODB-II port.  Enter MSD.  MSD offer a little ODB-II devices that can monitor these values and display them in a convenient little package: The Dashhawk Gen II.

So here is my very quick  overview... This is not meant to be a comprehensive guide, just my quick playing around! I'm sure I've overlooked all kinds of cool stuff... so for more information check out www.dashhawk.com

First thing I noticed was how compact the Dashhawk is!

It's really compact

The Setup Menu

From the setup Menu, you setup your custom displays, alerts, LCD settings, etc.

Custom Display

The Dashhawk displays the PIDs you select in your "Custom" display windows. You can define up to 11 "custom" windows

Display Type

After you pick which Custom window you want to  define you have to decide what kind of display you want.  You can define a 2 bar graph or 7 digital values.

PIDS

Now you need to decide what PIDs you want to  monitor.  Here is a 6 display showing the PIDs and in which window they will be displayed

In Action

Here's the display showing 6 PIDS.  The "1" in the upper right corner means the Dashhawk is on Custom Display 1.  The "c" the bottom right corner means the car is in "Closed Loop"

Bar Graph

Here's the inlet temp and coolant temp.  You can set "normal' values for the bar graphs... but I haven't tried that yet...
Alerts!

The Dashhawk can be setup to monitor a few different PIDs and then "alarm" if the value is exceeded.
RPM Alert

Here we set the RPM alert.  This can be used as a shift light.

RED ALERT

When the RPM exceeds the set value, the Dashhawk will flash a RED screen and also gives  an audible CLICK. The flashing definitely gets your attention
Speaking of Red

The Dashhawk's display color is also customizable... 16 million colors worth...

Performance Testing

The Dashhawk also has a 0-60 and 1/4 mile test! I've only done the 0-60 test.  It rated the Mistress 0-60 at 4.32! WOOHOO!

Bracket

One minor complaint. I was not happy with the mounting bracket that came with the Dashhawk.  An L bracket, double sided tape and some velcro.
Custom Bracket

So I went to Best Buy and picked up a generic radar detector bracket.  I trimmed it a bit to fit. Much better in my humble opinion.
On the Dash

Now, this is just a very basic overview of the features I've played with!  There are other cool feature I have not tried!  Things like data logging and valet!  Valet lets you record maximum values!  Hmmmm... that could be very handy!

As time permits I'll try to update this page as I learn more and more about this cool little gadget!!!
