MRT To The Rescue!

In April of 2006, I got a greedy with the Zex Nitrous Oxide. I had been running the N20 with a 100HP shot for quite some time.  The car had been running mid-13's in the 1/4 mile. The best time on the 100HP shot was 13.3. So we upped the N20 to a 125HP shot. I had made some test passes at Milan and a few test launches on the street.  The 125HP shot seemed to be solid...

On April 15th, I pushed The Mistress a bit to hard... The day started out with a great run, a 13.30. This is the cars, and mine, best ET ever!  So I was excited.  The next run The Mistress went an amazing 13.13 at 102.84 MPH!!!  I was able to cut a neck snapping 1.834 60'! Now I was really geeked!  The track was getting better and the bottle pressure was still coming up.  So after a nice cool down and with the bottle pressure up to 925 PSI I decided it was time to break into the 12's!

So I head to the staging lanes.... I get staged and I make up my mind... I'm going for the 12!  I hit the gas pedal hard! The car goes WOT very very quickly... like around 2000 RPM and then Nitrous comes on.  But the car doesn't feel right.  Driving down the return lane the car feels really bad. The time slip confirms the worst. It shows a 14.07.  Something is seriously wrong. I had lost cylinder #3 (back cylinder on the passenger side).  I ended up limping home on five cylinders...

I called Scott at MRT and he came up with a Plan! The Plan was to swap out the broke motor with a "lightly" used 4.0L, remove the Zex N20 system and install a Vortech Supercharger!

And once again Scott Hoag and the whole team at MRT (www.mrt-direct.com) out did themselves! They revived The Mistress!  The new motor was installed. The Zex Nitrous kit was removed. And a new Vortech Supercharger was installed!!!  While The Mistress was at MRT, Scott also tinted the headlights, lowered the car with a set of H&R Sport Springs and added a dash gauge pod! The Mistress is back!  Stronger and better looking than ever!

The main addition to The Mistress was the Vortech supercharger (http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com).  We went with the HO kit which features an aftercooler  and a 10 PSI pulley.  The Vortech is a well put together kit. Fit and finish is top notch.  It does however really fill up the engine bay!  Performance wise the Vortech is simply amazing!  It is much more responsive than I would have ever guessed! While the Vortech doesn't have the raw torque that the nitrous did, the Vortech keeps making power and you can feel it keep pulling the car while the nitrous had the tendency to feel like it was petering out as the RPMs climbed. The Vortech is a great addition to The Mistress!  I feel it was a very smart move switching from the nitrous to the supercharger...  The nitrous had it place in The Mistress's evolution...  but it was simply time to step up to the Vortech Supercharger!

Also, I cannot thank Scott and MRT enough for the incredible job they did on The Mistress! Scott has been invaluable with his great advise.  And MRT's customer service is second to none! They have bent over backwards to take excellent care of The Mistress and they have been a key player in her evolution!

So now on to the pictures!

While The Mistress was down at MRT, we had a little addition!  Miss Bailee Marie!

Here is a short video little video, testing out the Vortech: Vortech Video

Again I cannot say enough great things about MRT!  Their website proclaims, "If you can dream it -- we'll help you build it!"   Well, I can honestly say they are certainly helping me put together put my Dream Car!!!  There is no doubt that MRT will continue to play a BIG part when it comes to The Mistress!
